Residence Life employs students that live in the residence halls to provide information, guidance, and support to other students. These student leaders foster an exceptional residential experience that provides opportunities for growth and development for the diverse residential population.
Beginning in Fall 2024, two student leader positions will be present in the residence halls. A Community Assistant (CA) will develop engaging events, foster a growing community, complete administrative task, as assist with residential crisis. A Resident Assistant will provide On Call/Emergency response, complete administrative tasks, office management and lockouts.
Both positions will provide student leaders the opportunity to develop essential professional skills including:
- Public Speaking
- Event Planning
- Time Management
- Written/Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking/Problem Solving
- Crisis Management
- Teamwork/Collaboration
- Ethical Role Modeling
Qualifications
CAs and RAs must be full-time students and maintain a minimum semester and cumulative GPA of 2.50.
CAs and RAs must be in good conduct standing with the University as well as compliant with all state/federal laws.
Good conduct standing is defined as not being in a current probationary status, having completed all imposed sanctions for violations of the Student Code of Conduct, or having a substantial previous conduct file. CAs and RAs that fail to remain in good standing could receive sanctions, probation, and/or termination.
Multiple responsible violations of the Student Code of Conduct or violations of fire safety violations may eliminate an individual from being considered for the CA or RA position.
During college breaks, CAs and RAs must abide by campus policies and exhibit professional behavior. Actions and/or decisions over break periods may affect employment.
CAs and RAs should demonstrate strong leadership and ethical behavior as a student leader both on and off campus while employed with the Residence Life Office.

Do you have to live in the residence halls to apply?
No. Commuters are welcome and encouraged to apply! If you are hired, you must live in the residence hall or apartment complex to which you are assigned.
What is the compensation?
In exchange for service, CAs and RAs receive free room and board—a value of more than $10,000. In addition, a small stipend is provided each semester.
